The Service Tax Department has filed a case for the evasion of taxes against Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi for not making tax payments wherein he used to charge producers and others under the head of service tax.
As per reports, the Mumbai Service Tax department has issued a recovery notice for a staggering amount of Rs 40 lacs to Vivek Oberoi. The department has also claimed that the actor does not have a registration with them.
A source from the Service Tax Department commented - "Interestingly it was only yesterday that he took a registration from us, as we conducted searches at his premises,"
Vivek Oberoi has recently clarified through a text message - “There is no question of evasion of any sort. We Oberois have always taken pride in paying our taxes. I am registered with the department and my CA is doing his job. FYI for the amount mentioned by you the due date is September 30.”
