Bollywood's Biggest Hits (Highest Earners) of 2011


Bodyguard
As per sources, Bodyguard emerges the highest grossing film of 2011. Made on a budget of 60 crores and riding high on Salman's star power, it went on to become the highest opening day grosser and grossed 229 crores worldwide.

RA.OnE
Ra.One - a science fiction starring Shahrukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor in lead roles - was one of the most anticipated movies of 2011, considering the star cast, the budget estimated to be 125 crores, plus the heavy marketing and promotions costing around 50 crores. The film opened to a mixed public response, the critics panned it, but went on to become the second highest grossing Bollywood film worldwide earning 240 crores from all its versions

Ready
Salman Khan started the year with Ready that straight away hit the bull's-eye raking in opening weekend collections of around 42 crores nett, and grossing 180 crores worldwide by the end of its run. The film stands the seventh highest grossing Bollywood film ever as of December 2011.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is a coming-of-age film that stars Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol, and Katrina Kaif in lead roles. Shot mostly in London, Spain, Morocco and India, the movie was made on a budget of 55 crores and grossed Rs. 152 crores nett worldwide.

Don 2
Don 2 - the much awaited sequel to Don (released in 2006) opened to mix reviews with Shahrukh Khan receiving the maximum accolades for his performance. The movie was released in 3,100 screens across India and netted around 48 crores over the opening weekend. Overseas too, the collections have been decent so far standing at around 7 million dollars

The Dirty Picture
The Dirty Picture is a biographical film that hit the box office jackpot. The movie sees Vidya Balan portraying the life and times of Silk Smitha - a South Indian actress noted mostly for her erotic roles. It has turned out to be a huge commercial success, with Balan receiving maximum accolades for her performance

Rockstar
Rockstar - a musical film that traces the life of a rockstar opened to mix reviews at the box office. However, it was soon embraced by its target audience - the youth, the plusses being Ranbir's realistic portrayal of a rockstar and Rehman's scintillating musical score. It ended up grossing 105 crores worldwide

Delhi Belly
Aamir Khan Productions has an enviable record of delivering hits and the trend continued with Delhi Belly - an adult comedy starring Imran Khan, Vir Das, and Kunaal Roy Kapoor in lead roles. The film was extensively promoted and opened very well at the box office collecting around 36 crores nett in the opening weekend

Yamla Pagla Deewana
Yamla Pagla Deewana - a comedy film starring Dharmendra, Sunny Deol, and Bobby Deol in lead roles set the box office rolling when it released on 14th Jan, 2011. The film opened to favorable reviews raking in 24 crores in the opening weekend and grossing around 87 crores worldwide by the end of its run
