Movie Review:PHATA POSTER NIKHLA HERO Is Entertaining Ride

Overall this should take a decent start at box office and will depend on word of mouth from there on. Film will get stiff competition from runaway hit "Grand Masti" and if film overcomes that barrier, then sky is the limit.

PHATA POSTER NIKHLA HERO Is Entertaining Ride

Pluses:

Shahid Kapoor showcases all his skills with aplomb, Illeana is good, songs are melodious, dialogues have desired punch

Minuses:

writing is inconsistent especially in 2nd half, direction is a bit uninspiring towards the end

Critic Rating:
3/5

Business Rating:
3.5/5

Verdict:

Watch it if you love typical Bollywood medley of romance, action and comedy

Detailed Analysis:

Director Rajkumar Santoshi gave some real hard hitting hits like "Ghayal" and "Damini" through 90's and made a strong comeback four years back with hit romantic comedy "Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahaani". His latest offering PPNH looks similar to his last outing APKGK and promises wholesome entertainment.

Film is nothing but a hilarious ride throughout. Vishwas Rao ( Shahid Kapoor) is an aspiring actor and he is mistaken for a cop. How his false identity puts him in a spot in front of his lady love Kaajal (Illeana), mother Savitri (Padmini Kolhapure), ACP Khare (Darshan Jariwala), and don Gundappa Das (Saurabh Shukla). There is also writer Jogi (Sanjay Mishra) to make you fall off the seat.

Performance wise this is Shahid's most confident and 2nd best performance after "Kaminey". He fights, he dances and he delivers some solid punches with all the right pitch. Illeana looks pretty and that was her job. She shines as "Complaint Kaajal". Padmini Kolhapure, Sanjay Mishra and Darshan Zariwala are superb but Saurabh Shukla overacts. Salman Khan makes you smile in a small appearance as he did in APKGK.

Songs are melodious but at times one feels there are too many. "Dhatang Naach" and "Agal Bagal" look good on big screens. Another winner from Tips with Pritam on music front! Editing is lackluster especially in 2nd half and camerawork is decent. But its writing of Rajkumar Santoshi which is hilarious and leave hardly any dull moment. Except few portions in 2nd half one enjoys throughout. Though as a director Rajkumar Santoshi falters at places; there is too much song and dance, contrived climax and half baked "Operation White Elephant" and above all lack of novelty.

Overall this should take a decent start at box office and will depend on word of mouth from there on. Film will get stiff competition from runaway hit "Grand Masti" and if film overcomes that barrier, then sky is the limit.
