Films havestarted releasing mid week instead of the coveted release on Friday. This is leading to a rift betweenthe multiplexes and producers. The distributors
are expecting theexhibitors to consider a nine-day week (for the first
week) instead of a sevenday one. However the exhibitors are far from getting convinced.
A source from a suburban multiplex informs,"Distributors are now insisting that multiplexes should give them extrabonus if the film's business crosses the threshold mark of Rs 40 crore in anine-day week. Most multiplexes have been resisting this for some time."
Next is Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Boss’ which is set for amidweek release, which could again lead to conflicts.
According to sources, the distributors
were worried aboutKrrish 3, which was scheduled to release on a Monday
and would've got a nineday run on the first week. However, now with the release date being shifted toa Friday, the situation is resolved.
On Sunday, the distributors of Besharam signed
a deal withthe multiplexes on an eight-day week basis but will be
billing them for anine-day week on the condition that multiplexes cannot
sign another nine-dayweek contract with any film till the end of March
2014. In that case, themultiplexes will have to return the ninth day
share to the distributors.
