Overwhelmed with joy to receive
the award, Bachchan called it an 'extremely historic award.' He further
commented - "I have been extremely overwhelmed by the love and
affection of the people of Great Britain."
Calling Bachchan a role model, Speaker Bercow said, "You have been a role model and Amitabh you deserve the award."
The citation noted that "Amitabh first gained popularity
in the early 1970s as the 'angry young man' of Hindi cinema, and has
since appeared in over 180 Indian films in a career spanning more than
four decades. Bachchan is regarded as one of the greatest and most
influential actors in the history of Indian cinema."
Amitabh
was honoured with the Padma Shri in 1984 and the Padma Bhushan in 2001.
Recently, Amitabh Bachchan returned to the small screen with his mega quiz show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ (KBC) 7. The show is in its seventh edition, and is called Kaun Banega Crorepati 2013.
