It has become mandatory for script writers to register their scripts prior to a narration, as per a directive issued by Bollywood’s production houses.
Recently,
Nepal based writer, Dhirendra Kumar had claimed that he had written the
script from which the story of ‘Ghanchakkar’ was picked.
Questions also arose about Anand Gandhi’s ‘Ship Of Theseus’ having a stark resemblance to the protagonist character of ‘Bereft Of Colours’.
Ajit Andhare of Viacom18 Motion Pictures commented - "It is vital to have the screenplay/script
duly registered to ensure authenticity and to facilitate the process of
selection and development into a full film project by a production
house."
Asked about it, Vinay Shukla, president of Film Writers Association said - "Writers are more aware now and there has been an increase in the number of script registration, compared to last year. This should have happened a long time back and we have sent out official letters to studios and production houses informing them about the need for the script to be registered,"
With the new rule being introduced, it seems that fewer legal notices would be showcased in the Bollywood arena in the times to come.
