Top 9 Opening Weekends In 2015, GABBAR IS BACK ON TOP 

2014 proved to be a bad year at box office for Bollywood and that is why there was great hope from 2015. But even this year has started on sluggish note and not a single film has got clean hit status yet. 

'Roy' scored at box office on its opening day as film collected 10 cr nett plus though it dropped badly later with rather average weekend of 28.68 cr nett. 'Baby' opened well and had very good weekend of 36 cr nett riding on good reviews. 

'Badlapur' had rather good opening day at 7 cr nett and went on to collect 23.50 cr nett over weekend despite adversely affected by CRICKET match on Sunday. This was good considering adult content. 'Ek Paheli Leela' had good opening day but film failed miserably due to bad content over weekend with below par number of 15.85 cr nett. 'Detective Byomkesh Bakshy' had similar fate with 14 cr nett weekend. Emraan Hashmi continued to deliver disasters with 13.99 cr nett weekend.  Akshay Kumar again delivered rather good weekend business of 39.41 cr nett with his 2nd release of the year 'Gabbar Is Back'

Bollywood films have disappointed and no big films made impact in last 6 months except ''PK''. This year not a single mainstream masala Bollywood film worked and to make situation worse Hollywood biggies ''Fast & Furious 7'' and ''Avengers Age Of Ultron'' over-performed. Today two films ''Piku'' and ''Kuch Kuch Locha Hai'' are releasing of diverse genre.

''Piku'' is produced by Sony MSM and distributed by Yash Raj Films. Film released in 1600 - 1800 screens and it has opened to glowing reviews and decent occupancy. Film is solid in metros especially in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. Film has opening of 35% and it seems that with good word of mouth, film can score very good day one around 5 cr nett and it can go higher depending on evening shows.

''Kuch Kuch Locha Hai'' is another Sunny Leone starrer and has real bad reviews. Film released under 1000 screens and going by the competition at box office, film will find it tough to collect even 2 cr nett on day one. Film will be very lucky to reach this figure after poor performance of last Sunny Leone starrer ''Ek Paheli Leela''.

It seems that ''Gabbar Is Back'' will also will be in mix and might challenge ''Piku'' and for sure will overpower Sunny Leone starrer in single screens.

Film has crossed 55.26 cr nett in six days. Marathi film ''Timepass 2'' again took away at least 5 cr nett from ''Gabbar Is Back''. Still good week one of 62-65 cr nett looks certain. Film collected 9.50 cr over weekend in overseas which was almost similar to Akshay Kumar starrers like ''Holiday'' and ''Entertainment''.

GABBAR IS BACK Is Heading For Good Week One

Bollywood films have disappointed and no big films made impact in last 6 months except ''PK''. This year not a single mainstream masala Bollywood film worked and to make situation worse Hollywood biggies ''Fast & Furious 7'' and ''Avengers Age Of Ultron'' over-performed. Now flow of big Bollywood releases started with Akshay Kumar starrer ''Gabbar Is Back'' which has scored fairly good weekend.

''Gabbar Is Back'' has opened in 3000 screens and this kind of release coupled with holiday on Friday means that film should cross 10 cr nett mark bare minimum. Ideally collection target of the film was 15 cr nett mark which would had brought confidence back to TRADE. But still film collected good 13.05 cr nett on Friday. Film will be aided by again on Monday due to bank holiday.

Film started slowly on Saturday in morning but film again performed well from evening onwards especially in smaller towns and non metros. Film collected 11.36 cr nett on day two and that was very good considering rather modest day one. Film was again strong in single screens and managed very good 15 cr nett which is higher than Friday. Film is weak in metros and high end multiplexes which might prove crucial in long run.

On Monday, film improved in multiplexes and though single screen saw some drop, overall film had fairly good Monday. Film dropped by only 40% and collected 6.75 cr nett. Film collected 5 cr nett on Tuesday and 4.10 cr nett on Wednesday. This is a good trend and if film maintains this over 2nd weekend then it can get on to get hit tag.

1st Weekend Box Office Collection Of TIMEPASS 2

Film was strong on Sunday and it collected 4.25 cr nett. Film had huge 11 cr nett weekend and even average performance from here will take it close to 25 cr nett lifetime. It has chances of closing 30 cr nett lifetime.

TIMEPASS 2 Had Bumper Weekend

And if that was not enough, now regional cinema has started making waves at box office in big way.

''Timepass 2'' has opened with wide release in Maharastra and this kind of release coupled with holiday on Friday means that film will score big. And that is what film did with almost 90% occupancy throughout the day and even metros were solid. Film dented other new releases in big way.

Film collected 3.75 cr nett on day one and it broke records of big Bollywood releases in smaller centers and cinemas. Film had super Saturday and collected 3 cr nett. Film has now highest opening day and will have highest opening weekend too.

Gabbar Is Back one day Collection

Akshay Kumar and Shruti Haasan starrer Gabbar Is Back hit the screens yesterday worldwide. Considering, the film had good pre-release buzz and a decent screen count, according to early estimates, Gabbar Is Back  managed to rake in around 13 crores on Day 1 i.e. 1st Friday at the Box Office in India.

Strong Akshay Kumar territories like Rajasthan, CP-Berar, CI etc which are mass belts performed well, but Maharashtra has done the best of all as it enjoyed a state holiday.  Pune made best collections, especially in Multiplexes.

If the film shows good signs of picking up today and tomorrow, Gabbar Is Back has high chances of touching the 30 crore mark during the opening weekend.

2nd Week Box Office Collection Of MARGARITA WITH A STRAW

Film has total of 4.53 cr nett in seven days and now film is heading for 5 cr nett lifetime which is rather disappointing total. Film will be almost out in 3rd week and it will struggle to reach even 7 cr nett lifetime. Though its a good total for such film but still high marketing cost should have brought more people in. 

MARGARITA WITH A STRAW Had Below Par Week One

Bollywood films have disappointed and no big films made impact in last 6 months though kind of off beat films like ''Badlapur'', ''NH 10'' and ''Dum Laga Ke Haisha'' did well at box office. Now its turn of ''Margarita With A Straw'' to reap benefits at box office.

Film opened to bad numbers of 5% and that was below expectations as it was supposed to open around 15% with limited screening and exceptional word of mouth. Film was expected to grow as good reviews poured in. Film was so poor that even premium centers like Mumbai, Bnagalore and Mysore were less than 15%. Film jumped from evening onwards but  writing was on the wall. 

Film collected 43 lakhs nett on day one which is extremely poor and even growth over weekend could take it to close to 2 cr nett somewhat similar to what was expected. Even on day two, film continued to struggle and collected 74 lakhs nett. Film added 89 lakhs nett on Sunday and thus film remained below par throughout weekend. 

Film dropped heavily on weekdays and collected 31 lakhs nett on Monday, 31 lakhs nett on Tuesday and 30 lakhs nett each on Wednesday and Thursday. Film added 70 lakhs nett over 2nd weekend and 55 lakhs nett on weekdays in 2nd week. with total 1.25 cr nett in 2nd week.

Film has got release in 1600 screens and that is 30% less than ''''Fast & Furious 7'''' but higher ticket prices plus more patronage in metros might even things out.

Film lost at least 1-1.5 cr nett due to cancellation of morning shows due to technical issues. Film had huge Sunday at box office and collected 12.91 cr nett which was big jump. Film dropped on Monday and collected 5.41 cr nett which was noticeable drop. Film added 4.60 cr nett on Tuesday.

Film has total of 45.75 cr nett which is good total.Going by the drop it seems that film should cross 55 cr nett in week one which was lifetime biz of first installment. Lifetime business of around 75 cr nett will be good and less than that will be disappointing going by the power of Hollywood in India in recent times.

Film has total of 24.10 cr nett in 10 days and now film is heading for 26 cr nett lifetime which is rather disappointing total. Film will be almost out in 3rd week and it will struggle to reach even 28 cr nett lifetime which was business of flop ''Raja Natwarlal''. Film also remained poor in overseas with under 3 cr nett over weekend.

MR X Drops Drastically In 2nd Weekend 

Bollywood films have disappointed and no big films made impact in last 6 months except ''PK''. This year not a single mainstream masala Bollywood film worked and now even mass entertainer Emraan Hashmi failed to break the jinx.

''Mr X'' opened to bad numbers of 10% and that was below expectations as it was supposed to open around 25%. Film was not expected to grow much as bad reviews poured in. Film was so poor that even mass centers like Indore, Surat and Kanpur were less than 15%. Film struggled from there and writing was on the wall. Film collected 14 cr nett in weekend and  22.75 cr nett in week one.

Film dropped baldy in 2nd weekend with 90% and collected very poor 1.35 cr nett. Film has such a steep fall that few shows were reduced on Saturday itself and super performance of ''Avengers'' further dented its chances. 

Film has total of 24.10 cr nett in 10 days and now film is heading for 26 cr nett lifetime which is rather disappointing total. Film will be almost out in 3rd week and it will struggle to reach even 28 cr nett lifetime which was business of flop ''Raja Natwarlal''. Film also remained poor in overseas with under 3 cr nett over weekend.

Movie Review JAI HO DEMOCRACY Is Neither A Comedy Nor A Satire

Film released today and should release across 200 screens. Film had no chances at box office as its a

 film with very niche appeal and average reviews will kill its chances further. Film will depend on 

exceptional word of mouth to survive as it has no great buzz or marketing awareness.

3rd Week Box Office Collection Of DETECTIVE BYOMKESH BAKSHY

Film has crossed 26.68 cr nett in 21 days and it is heading for 27 cr nett lifetime. Film has done fairly well in overseas and crosses 9 cr in 14 days.

Bollywood films have disappointed and no big films made impact in last 6 months except ''''PK''''. Now big summer season starts with 1st big release  of YRF ''''Detective Byomkesh Bakshy'''' but film disappointed big time. 

Film had few things going for it - Sushant Singh Rajput will be seen after quite some time, director Dibakar Banerjee has big credibility among multiplex audience and critics and equity of Byomkesh Bakshy as character. Film released in close to 1240 screens in India which meant its niche multiplex friendly release but content was rejected plus initial numbers were affected by ''''Fast & Furious 7''''.  

Film faced big Hollywood franchise ''''Fast & Furious 7'''' and seems eventually it has dented the film in big way. Film opened to decent occupancy of 35% all over. Film had to jump from evening onwards but that big jump was missing. Film collected 4.20 cr nett on day one which was average considering holiday followed by 14 cr nett plus weekend.

This film''''s success was crucial as this will give birth to a new franchise as well as dry spell will end finally at box office. Film did not grow much over weekend and was flat on weekdays. Film collected 19.87 cr nett in week one. This was expected weekend and its a poor total. 

Film dropped on 2nd Friday as expected with loss of screens and new releases. Film collected 75 lakhs nett on 2nd Friday and 1.10 cr nett on 2nd Saturday followed by 1.42 cr nett on Sunday. Film added 1.89 cr nett on weekdays and collected 5.16 cr nett in 2nd week. Film added 1.65 cr nett in 3rd week.

Film has crossed 26.68 cr nett in 21 days and it is heading for 27 cr nett lifetime. Film has done fairly well in overseas and crosses 9 cr in 21 days.

Film has total income around of 34.75 cr and that against the total cost of 35 cr which means loss of 0.8% (25 lakhs). Film was affected badly by ''Fast & Furious 7'' though good satellite deal did save the extent loss.

''Detective Byomkesh Bakshy'' released with expectations as it had interesting promo and combo of ace director Dibakar Banerjee - Sushant Singh Rajput. Still this film proved to be a disappointment at box office. 

Film collected below par 14 cr nett plus over weekend and then it went on to collect 19.87 cr nett in week one which was too good. Film crossed 25 cr nett over 2nd weekend and should collect 26  cr nett lifetime which is a below average number. Film should have distributor share of 12.25 cr and overseas too film had average business of 9 cr with share of 4.50 cr.


Film has 16.75 cr worldwide share and it will maximum earn 2.25 cr more from other ancillary rights in addition to 15.75 cr from satellite rights. Film has total income around of 34.75 cr and that against the total cost of 35 cr which means loss of 0.8% (25 lakhs). Film was affected badly by ''Fast & Furious 7'' though good satellite deal did save the extent loss.
