On Friday, the Gujarat High Court quashed a criminal complaint against Aamir Khan and four others in a case of alleged shooting of Chinkara, in their film ‘Lagaan’ without permission from the concerned officials during the film’s shooting in 2000.

After the arguments, Acting Chief Justice VM Sahai quashed the criminal proceedings against Aamir khan, his ex-wife Reena Dutta, director Ashutosh Gowariker, executive director Srinivas Rao and cinematographer Ashok Mehta.

The lawyer who represented Aamir, said, “Except the movie there is no evidence that there has been killing of Chinkara. There has to be some legal evidence to book someone. Except a scene from the movie there is no proof in the complaint that Chinkara was shot.” 

“The entire allegation is based upon a scene of the film “Lagaan” which cannot, by any stretch of imagination, be said to be a legal evidence of possession of the animal in question viz Chinkara,” one of the previous court orders stated.

Venkat Jagdish, Managing Director of OTS Advertising, said, “Salman and his PR team have managed to create quite an image in the public eye. His ‘Being Human’ might have started off as a clothing company, but it soon developed into a CSR activity of sorts. This created a good image of the star and that could be a reason why things might not get that bad for Salman. For brands to survive, they only need to disconnect themselves from an ambassador and hire a new one.”

“As far as buying goes, people may buy if they are fans of the ambassador or if they genuinely like the brand. Now, if a brand drops Salman, they might lose a few of his loyal fans as clients, but the majority of the sales will not be affected,” Ajeet Mestry, creative director of Star Sports said.

Bollywood films have disappointed and no big films made impact in last 6 months except ''PK''. This year not a single mainstream masala Bollywood film worked and now ''Avengers Age Of Ultron'' is set to dominate Indian box office after stupendous performance of ''Fast & Furious 7''.

''Avengers'' opened to fantastic numbers of 70% and that was more than what anyone expected. Film will go only better from here onwards as there is no competition at box office. Film has got release in 1600 screens and that is 30% less than ''Fast & Furious 7'' but higher ticket prices plus more patronage in metros might even things out.

Film collected 10.98 cr nett which was be huge figure for a non holiday Hollywood opener and higher than any Bollywood opening day in 2015. Film lost at least 1-1.5 cr nett due to cancellation of morning shows due to technical issues. On day two again film was unlucky as it got affected by earthquake as cinemas were closed in larger part of north India but still it managed very good 11.85 cr nett.

Film had huge Sunday at box office and collected 13.17 cr nett which was big jump. Film dropped on Monday and collected 5.40 cr nett which was noticeable drop. Film added 4.60 cr nett on Tuesday, 3.90 cr nett on Wednesday and 3.75 cr nett on Thursday. Film dropped by 65% on 2nd Friday and collected 3.25 cr nett, 3.35 cr nett on 2nd Saturday and 4.05 cr nett on 2nd Sunday without any distinct jump.

Rs 200 crore investment under threat as Salman Khan awaits judgement day

As a local court is set to pronounce verdict in the hit-and-run case involving the Bollywood superstar Salman Khan on May 6, the film industry is keeping its fingers crossed as an investment of about Rs 200 crore is riding on him.

“The film industry is hoping that nothing terrible happens. Either he is pronounced innocent or the least punishment is given,” said the trade analyst Komal Nahata.

His two upcoming films, “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” which stars Kareena Kapoor and “Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo” opposite Sonam Kapoor, are currently in the last “schedule” of shooting.

The 49-year-old actor recently shot for “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” in Kashmir.

Amod Mehra, another trade analyst, said Salman Khan had committed to do four others films, including “Dabang 3″ and “Entry Mein No Entry”, but these were only at the stage of announcement.

In all, an investment of Rs 200 crore is riding on Salman, who has delivered a string of box office collections successes in the last few years, according to Nahata.

The actor is accused of ramming his car, while drunk, into a roadside bakery in suburban Bandra in the early hours of September 28, 2002, killing one person and injuring four others.

The maximum sentence he can get is a ten years’ jail term, on the charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

After Sanjay Dutt, Salman is the second big star from Mumbai film industry to get embroiled in a high-profile criminal case in recent years. He is also facing trial in a Rajasthan court for hunting a black buck during the shooting of “Hum Saath Saath Hain”.

Meanwhile, actor Jacky Bhagnani said, “I am personally very very close to Salman Khan… But it’s a court decision… I can’t talk about it too much… I hope justice prevails.”

Veteran actor Anupam Kher said, “Salman is a wonderful person… I pray to the god he is happy after the verdict… He is a very good human being… I hope everything is sorted out.”

Actress Soha Ali Khan said she was praying that God give Salman and his family strength. He is very close to my family…and has always been very helpful,” she said.
