‘Independence Day 2′ Moved to Summer 2016, The 20th Anniversary of the Original Film

Briefly: Earlier today, 20th Century Fox moved around a bunch of their 2015 releases. One film conspicuously absent was Roland Emmerich‘s sequel, Independence Day 2. Well, it took a few more hours, but now the fate of that movie has been revealed. It’s still coming, but as some suspected, it has been moved back a whole year.
Independence Day 2 will now hit theaters July 1, 2016, not July 3, 2015. The new date just so happens to be almost 20 years to the day after the release of the original. Whether that was the happy coincidence, or if it’s to make room for Michael B. Jordan, or Will Smith, remains to be seen. But there’s now plenty more time to figure it all out.
